Amy Jenkins was born and lives in Fort Worth, Texas. Her narrative paintings and drawings explore the good versus evil dichotomy in multiple series of works combined with an element of Texas tall tale exaggerations. She loves great Southern storytellers like Flannery O’Connor, Harper Lee, and William Styron. In particular, she is interested in popular characters playing symbolic roles acting out real-life or outrageous experiences. Especially, Amy is exploring catharsis, karma, and revenge with these characters in various media and color schemes. This newest series of digital drawings has toy plastic cowboys acting as saviors of Fort Worthians while exploring composition and color.

Amy is a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University where she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art where she studied under Fort Worth painter, Ron Tomlinson. Ron told Amy, “Get out of Texas!” and study painting in New England. She also holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Boston University where she studied under English abstract painter, John Walker. After graduate school, she was invited to attend the Vermont Studio Center with artists Bernie Chaet and Barbara Grossman for a month-long residency. She lived in Boston for three years then moved back to her home state to paint and teach art. Amy was nominated for a Tiffany Grant in 2003 and a Hunting Art Prize Finalist in 2009. She was a recipient of The New Normal Grant: An Artist’s Response to Covid-19 in 2020. Her work has been exhibited in Texas, Connecticut, Massachusetts, California, and New York.
